by Kristen Feola You are beautiful. You are special. You are loved. Do you find it difficult to accept these words about yourself? I do. Instead of celebrating the unique ways in which God has made me, I have a tendency to focus on the qualities I dislike about myself. But I’m not alone in this struggle. Most people – especially we women – battle with identity issues from time to time. That’s why I’m writing this blog post today. I believe we need to be reminded of a few things as we begin the New Year. The world wants to convince you that you’re not enough – that you’re lacking in some way and just don’t make the cut. But that’s not accurate! Your identity is not wrapped up in what you look like, how much money you make, where you live, what you drive, or what you’ve accomplished. Your identity is found in Christ alone. You are beautiful because He made you. You are special because there’s no one else on earth like you. You are loved because Christ died for you. You’re not on this earth by accident or coincidence. The God of all creation willed your existence long ago and chose you for this exact time in history. Also, you have been fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:13-14). The Bible says God knit you together in your mother’s womb, which means He handcrafted everything about you. God has great plans for your life in 2018, so it’s important that you begin the year with the right frame of mind. Instead of believing lies about yourself, focus on what is true. Focus on what God says. When you read the Bible on a regular basis, you’ll grow in your understanding of who God is and who you are in Him. You can join a small group study, read a daily devotional, or follow an online reading plan. Make the commitment to draw closer to God this year, not out of duty but from a genuine desire to get to know Him better. Seek Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Believe that you’re beautiful, special, and deeply, deeply loved. Because you are.
